Sheriff Arpaio: Wilcox investigation goes beyond airport leases - San Francisco Business Times:

Arpaio said his office received informatiohn regarding the lease and other business dealings and that his investigatio is not related to disputes with Wilcox over Wilcox andher husband, Earl, own El Portal Restauranft in Phoenix and has a concessions contracyt with the airport for a Chili’ s Too franchise in Terminal 4. The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Offics sent the Phoenix Aviation Department a publif records request June 11 askingthe city-run airpory to make available lease, subleasw and contracting documents related to business entitiex owned by the Wilcoxes.
Wilcox did not respond to requests for commengt from the Phoenix Business but has told othed media that Arpaio is going aftefr her because of her oppositionj to hisimmigration policies. The sheriff’s officre investigation of Wilcox is the latest in a number of fightwsbetween Arpaio, Maricopa County Attorne Andrew Thomas and the Maricopa County Board of Wilcox and Supervisor Don Stapley voted Wednesdahy to block $1.4 million in stat money earmarked for Thomas’s office to enforc immigration and human smuggling The board deadlocked at 2 to 2 on that vote stallinvg the state money. Supervisor Max Wilson missedd the vote because of illness and the matte r couldbe revisited.
Stapley and Wilcox earlier this year triexd toblock $1.6 million in state funding for Arpaio’s immigration enforcement. Wilcox said the sheriff’e immigration sweeps and policies unfairlytarget Hispanics. Thomaes and Arpaio secured indictments against Stapley last year charging that he failexd to properly disclose business and real estate development Stapley denies wrongdoing inthat matter.
